A 2019 Natural Resources Defense Council report shows that, on average, a person visits the toilet 4-5 times a day using about 12-13 sheets of toilet paper amounting to the total of 141 rolls per year. Of course, this is too general and does not reflect the vast differences in toilet paper consumption depending on the country, socio-cultural stereotypes, eating habits etc.

According to the statistics of QS Supplies, in 2022, Bulgaria used only 1,200,000 rolls of toilet paper.

The same study indicates that the largest consumer in the world is China, using 6 billion kilometers of toilet paper per year. The USA holds the second place with over 4 billion kilometers per year. The study also reveals that, per capita, the Portuguese, Americans, and Germans use the most toilet paper in the world – about 140 rolls per year or 1,000+ kilometers throughout their lives, and the Nigerians, Indonesians, Romanians, and Russians use the least.
